Kenny and Laverne opened Kenny B’s in 1999. They run a true family business. They reside on the island as well. Located off Pope Avenue near Coligny Circle, the quaint building is located on the end of a shopping center. When you walk in, order at the counter. Dress is casual. Get there early because the line forms down the middle of the restaurant. If it takes a little while for the person at the front to read the menu and decide what they want, it can slow the line down. Laverne works daily taking orders and delivering food. They are closed on Mondays. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options are available. Highchairs are available. The place is wheelchair accessible. They serve beer and wine. You can sit inside or outside on the sidewalk. They also do take out orders.

The room is cleverly decorated with the food theme. All around are pictures of their family and bulldogs, clearly the biggest fans of the Georgia Bulldogs. One entire wall displays a mural of Bourbon Street and the historic French Quarter keeping with the Mardi Gras feeling.

Kenny B's Food 3

The food is New Orleans Cajun and creole food with Southern Style. Each table has a New Orleans street theme. Everyone loves the classic shrimp and grits for breakfast or a po-boy sandwich, and don’t pass up on the beignets. Pair your meal with sweet iced tea, soft drinks, or coffee. They also sell chicory, a warm, coffee-like drink that tastes slightly woody and nutty. Breakfast is served daily from 8:30-11, or until the last person in line is served.

For lunch and dinner, the po-boy sandwich is a classic. They also serve crawfish pie, gumbo, jambalaya, quiche, catfish and lots of other options on the huge menu. Sides include options like corn on the cob, French fries, okra, and red beans and rice. They do a fun take on the kids meal by serving it in a doggie bowl!

Kenny B’s is most famous for their Sunday Brunch. They paused it, but they are open on Sunday’s for regular service. But, they DID JUST ANNOUNCE they will be open for a ONE TIME ONLY Mother’s Day Sunday Brunch on Sunday, May 9th from 8-1. The prices are adults $16.95 and kids (ages 4-10) $8.95.  The menu includes: fresh fruit, Caesar salad, broccoli raisin salad, creole quiche, shrimp and grits, gumbo ya ya, boiled crawfish, collard greens, biscuits and gravy, corn beef hash, skillet potatoes, pancakes, mac and cheese, honey glazed ham, corn maque choux, voodoo pasta, Cajun marinated fried chicken, beignets, bananas foster bread pudding, assorted cakes and pies and made to order omelets and benedicts.

Kenny B's Food 4

On Easter and Thanksgiving, Kenny B’s sells amazing family “to-go” meals! This is one of the things we love about this restaurant! We love the ease of reserving our Thanksgiving meal, picking it up, going back to the condo to eat, and going outside to play! A delicious hot meal with no cooking and little cleaning up! They let you choose between a “small” or “large” meal. The difference is the large comes with a bigger main course, more sides, and 2 desserts, instead of choosing between them. When it gets close to one of these holidays, they will post the ordering information on their website. Call ahead and let them know what you want and schedule your pickup time. Pay when you pick up. On these days, they are only open for these order ahead meals.

If you try it and love it, let them know!
